Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is used most frequently at our Institute for the treatment of post-surgical scars, acne scars, or the deep wrinkles that can develop around the lips. Dermabrasion can be performed alone or in combination with other resurfacing techniques to yield maximal aesthetic improvements. Dr. Sparano uses a mechanical diamond wheel to treat the targeted scars or wrinkles under direct magnification. The procedure is safely performed in an office-based setting using topical anesthesia, local anesthesia, or occasional oral sedation. Patients can expect post-treatment redness and crusting for several days. Treated areas can be camouflaged with make-up until healing is complete. Final results after dermabrasion are usually appreciated by 6 months, but improvements are evident weeks after the procedure.
